Women’s golf places high in recent tournaments

At the two-day Siouxland Invite on Tuesday, Sep. 8 and Wednesday, Sep. 9 in Sioux City, IA, women’s golf brought two teams, with Team “A” finishing in a tie for third place. 

Tigers Team “A” scored 318 at Landsmeer Golf Course. Juniors Connie Jarm and Laila Saunders led Team “A” at Landsmeer Golf Course, both finishing with a 78. On hole eight, Jarm scored the tournament’s only eagle. Senior Payton Morgan led Team “B” in the first round with an 80. 

The next day, Team “A” shot a 321 at The Ridge Golf Course. Jarm and senior Avery Van Horn led the team with a 77 and 80, respectively. Morgan finished with another 80, once again leading Team “B”. Jarm tied for sixth place with Van Horn and Saunders finishing in the top twenty. 

On Monday, Sep. 14, and Tuesday, Sep. 15, Doane participated in the two-day Cottey Fall Kickoff Invitational in Nevada, MO, bringing one team of seven girls. 

Junior Jamisyn Kirkpatrick scored a 75 the first day at Frank E. Peter Municipal Golf Course. Van Horn and Saunders finished only a few strokes behind, both scoring an 81. 

On the second day, freshman Sophia Espeuda shot a 79, improving by nine strokes from the first round. Saunders followed with an 80, and freshman Dayna Keeling finished close behind with an 83. 

Kirkpatrick and Saunders tied for first place, followed by Van Horn in third and Espeuda and Morgan tied for fourth. In total, seven Doane players finished in the top ten. Doane came in first place with a total of 829 (408-421). 

Women’s golf next plays in Niobrara, NE, at the Mount Marty Fall Invite on Monday, Sept. 21, and Tuesday, Sept. 22.
