Doane Women’s golf finished first at the two-day Mount Mary Invite at Tantanka Golf Club. The Tigers sent two teams to the tournament, both finishing within the top 20.
Representing Team “A,” junior Connie Jarm finished the first day with a 74 and the second with a 77 for a total of 151, securing her second-place finish. Jarm had five birdies throughout the tournament. Only three strokes behind, senior Avery Van Horn finished with a 154 (79-75). Van Horn also made four birdies.
Junior Laila Saunders finished in ninth place with a 161 (78-83), followed by senior Payton Morgan from Team “B,” who finished 10th with a 164 (86-78). On hole 9, Saunders shot an eagle on a par 5. She was the only player to make an eagle during the tournament. Additionally, Morgan improved by eight strokes between day one and day two. Also representing Team “B,” freshman Dayna Keeling finished 13th, shooting an 86 and a 79 for a 165 total.
Team “A” finished with a 638 (320-328), 25 strokes ahead of second place. Team “B” finished in 7th place out of 10 teams with a total score of 693 (354-339).
JV Women’s Golf will play next at the Peru State tournament in Nebraska City, Nebraska, on Sept. 25 and 26. Varsity will play at the Hannibal-LaGrange University invite on Sept. 28 and 29 in Hannibal, Missouri.
