As part of the continuum of spooky activities taking place on campus, Doane Players, the Student Programming Board (SPB) and the Residential Hall Association (RHA) partnered for their annual haunted house at the Whitcomb Lee Conservatory. This is the first year RHA collaborated with Doane Players. This year, the theme for the house was horror movies.
As students waited for their turn to enter the haunted house, characters like Ghostface or the Plague Doctor would roam around scaring students.
The house featured rooms with different scenes from movies such as “IT,” “The Ring,” and “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.” Junior Tristan Tyson, who helped last year with the haunted house, shared, “I liked all the costumes and makeup… I recognized a lot of the characters,” Tyson said.
Sophomore Aleena Allen, who played the role of Pennywise, expressed, “My favorite part of the night was honestly seeing everybody’s reactions.”
Allen was one of the last jumpscares, she was hidden from attendees at first. “Once I popped out of the corner of the room, getting to see other people that I knew, like being relieved and excited once they realized that I was more, or just seeing people’s genuine reaction to a jump scare, was very exciting,” Allen said.
Allen Expressed she enjoyed getting to be a part of the haunted house, “I also really loved being a part of haunted house because it was a big collaboration between RHA and SPB and Doane Players, and it was just very fun to all get to collaborate and put something together that some students really loved,” Allen said.
Students who didn’t want to go through the haunted house or needed a break from the scares, had the option to color some pages and enjoy refreshments like popcorn, hot chocolate, hot apple cider, dirty sodas and ice cream.
