Doane hosted a musical event featuring Doane’s Jazz Band and Chamber Strings Ensemble. The event was held on April 15 at 7 p.m.
The event was for all students to attend, with snacks and other treats as an incentive for students to come and enjoy the concert.
“We are excited to hold this performance at Lakeside! In all settings, we strive to make music at Doane approachable for students and faculty,” Andrew Feyes professor and director of instrumental music said.
The leaders of the Chamber Strings Ensemble and the Jazz Band are Professors Addie Hotchkiss and Scott Vicroy, respectively.
The event was held in Lakeside, which is different from Heckman Auditorium, where the Music Department usually performs.
“By holding this performance at Lakeside, we hope to encourage a more laid back and enjoyable experience for performer and audience alike,” Feyes said.
The music that was performed by these two groups of performers was jazz and classical music.
“I doubt there will be one single highlight. Audience members will be treated to chamber music of the classical genre and a variety of jazz styles there will surely be something for everyone,” Feyes said.
No real interruptions or major production problems were reported.
“The challenges preparing for this performance are similar to any performance, practice and dedication to the music while developing the confidence and cohesion to put on a great show,” Feyes said.
This concert serves as the Music Department’s way of reaching out to the broader Doane student body by providing ways for people to get into this type of music with other students who are in Lakeside at the same time.
